The objective of the game is to lower your opponent's soldier count to 0 (what is traditionally called HP or hit points like this ). Each player starts with 20 in a regular match up, some campaign matches have some variance here. You can use tactics to affect your opponent's soldier count directly or attack them with character cards you have put in play. You can notice on screen above each player has a hand of cards ), a deck holding the cards he has not drawn yet on the right side of the screen). A turn timer which once expired forces the turn to the other player. And end turn button for when your turn is done. A hero power (like Shu hero power here ) that can be used for its cost in blue (2 tactical points) but only once per turn. Left clicking on your own deck allows you to see cards that are in there. Right clicking on your deck or your opponent's deck allows you to see the respective discard piles which hold cards that have been played (like tactics) or killed (like characters).

To be able to play a card, you must use Tactical Points and pay its cost indocated top left in the blue circle. Character cards are played on the board and stay there. Tactic cards can target character cards, players (also called heroes), your deck or your discard pile. Equipment can be assigned to a character to give them bonus stats or abilities (here character has a shield). Traps are kept unknown to your opponent until they trigger them with an action. For example, ambush will cause 2 damage to all opposing players once they attack. In the example above, player will play Scout and must choose one of the 5 empty slots on the board (lighter squares ).

When a character can attack (was not just deployed or visually you do not see this ), you can click on him and drag to where you want to attack. Choices are an opposing character or opposing hero (player). For the player, a zone will show around the hand to determine hero attack zone. A light line will show where you want to attack.

Breakdown of a card. Top left blue circle is cost of the card in tactical points so it can be played. Underneath it is the rarity , each color representing a different rarity. Grey is common, green is uncommon, blue is rare, yellow is legend and red is mythic. If the card is a character, bottom left red square is his War stat (how much damage he causes when he attacks). Bottom right green square is his soldier count, when this reachers 0 or less, character is killed. Some flavor text in the middle and faction symbol at the bottom . Characters can belong to factions and be granted certain bonuses/maluses by other cards. Text below card are the abilities the card has and their exaplanation.
